Find here my reviews of various sources for art supplies. I pay close attention to toxicity warnings and prefer ACMI-certified products. Furthermore, the place of origin and archival quality is important to me when choosing art supplies. I opt for recycled, locally produced, non-toxic, archival products that are produced in a sustainable manner. While there is not always a lot of information provided with products, and even though I may not support local businesses for all of my purchases, I take time and care in selecting all of my art materials.
BigCeramicStore.com: Great source of wood tile frames/trivets. Awesome service and very reliable.
BestBlanks.com: Good source for metal frames and baskets for ceramic tile projects. Also some harder to find wood products.
Art Media: Favorite local shop for art supplies in the Portland area.
Michaels: Good deal with the weekly 40% off one item ad, but I tend to go here infrequently. Good source for glass gems in a pinch and other craft supplies. Can search for basics online but often not enough detail to see if they have a specific item.
Joann: Like Michaels they often have a weekly coupon for 40% off one item with many rotating 50% off all supplies of a certain type. More for the fabric and notions crowd, but if they have the paint or glue I need, the price tends to be better than Michaels even without a sale. Also a good online presence for searching online before traveling to any stores to buy something or to compare prices with other local shops.
Wholesalers USA: Rockville, Maryland based supplier of mosaic tiles and glass gems. This is the best source I could find for the square glass tiles I want to use to create magnets and pins with my images and designs. Great deal even with the shipping. I checked for local sources and will try stained glass shops next.
Boyd's Imaging Products: Awesome source for roll canvas to use with my inkjet printer. Great customer service. Buy direct from the website, but also check their ebay store. I had a better deal direct which saves them money too.
Craft Warehouse: I like this place better than Joann and Michaels to be honest, but it's way out in Gresham or Aloha. I've never been to the Aloha store and use to work around the corner from the one in Gresham for many years. I just learned that Craft Warehouse grew up from the old Ben Franklin stores I used for art supplies back in the late 80's when I was in high school and taking art classes in college.
