2nd Annual Little Art Big Cause

The 2nd annual "little art BIG CAUSE" event will be held Thursday, June 2nd at Scandal's Lounge. The art sale beginning at 7pm and live music by Funkcaucus All Stars Band at 8pm.

I understand each piece will be sold for $50 with a substantial portion to benefit Cascade AIDS Project.

I'll have five 8" x 8" pieces in this year's benefit art show and sell. Dozens of artists received five or ten 8" x 8" cut plywood pieces to create art for the benefit. Last year I affixed five original inkjet canvas images and five dye sublimation ceramic tiles to my contributions. This year I'll be testing out an image transfer technique using waterslide decal paper. I'm thinking my favorite sedum and succulent images will be printed with archival quality inkjet to the decal and then transferred to the surface of the plywood. I've already sanded and prepared the wood with several coats of gesso to protect the image from acid in the wood. Then a top coat of acrylic varnish will finish them off.

I haven't decided yet if the sides will remain white or be painted black, but we'll see. As with last year, optional frames will be available from the organizer.

If this goes well, I'd like to try transferring the image to glass tiles and figure out a way to light them from behind for a more dramatic piece. Maybe some LED light source with a switch on the side of the frame.

Hope to see you there!

I'll have ten pieces for sale at this show. Scandals supplied each of twenty artists with ten 8" x 8" plywood panels on which to produce some art for the show. I decided to experiment a little by mounting my ceramic art tiles to half the boards and heat fusing on my canvas images to the other half.

Preparation has been a key effort with sanding the edges and three coats of gesso to provide a barrier between the wood and the art.

With a few more days to go until the event, I've got my hands full to complete mounting the tiles and canvas images in order to allow enough time to glaze the fronts.

I was thinking of creating pieces that could withstand the elements and be hung outside in a garden or on a patio. We'll see if this works out. Either way I'm looking forward to showing the pieces, helping raise some money for CAP, and seeing the other artwork.
